Frequently Asked Questions
Why is registration more extensive than in years past?
This year, PSEF members have changed how we run APEX internally, which means following new safety procedures for participants. While registration may ask a few more in-depth questions about the registrant, this information is only being collected for the safety of the students who participate in the event. Most of this information will only be used in the case of an emergency for the participant. If you have more questions about registration information, please email [email protected].
Does my student need to be part of a school group in order to attend?
This year, individual students or groups of students may attend APEX! We are changing the nature of the event to include all interested students, not just school groups! Some activities will require students to work in small groups, but we will make sure all participants have a group to stick with throughout the day! School groups are still welcome and encouraged to participate at APEX as well!
Are chaperones required?
Chaperones are not required this year. We have taken extra steps to allow students to attend APEX on their own without chaperones. The Purdue Student Engineering Foundation is made up of over 60 members, who will be there throughout the day to ensure the safety, coordination, and fun of participants! If a parent or guardian would like to stay during the event, they are welcome to do so! Lunch will not be provided for anyone besides participants.
Why is APEX on a weekend instead of a weekday this year?
In the past, APEX, previously known as Engineering Expo, was traditionally held on weekdays to allow school groups to attend as a field trip opportunity. However, there has been an increase in interest from individual participants who want to attend APEX separately from coordinated school groups. This year, we are trying to include as many students as possible at APEX, so we moved the event to take place on Saturday, November 9th.
Is there a registration fee?
For the first time, we are excited to share that there are no costs or fees for students to participate in APEX! Our APEX committee has worked hard to restructure the event to eliminate registration fees so more students have the opportunity to attend!
Can I register my student if capacity is reached/after the registration deadline?
Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate the registration of students once capacity has been reached or after the registration deadline passes. APEX is an event run by Purdue students of the Purdue Student Engineering Foundation, and to respect their time and planning, we will not take additional participants once registration has closed. APEX is an annual event, so if you are interested in your student participating next year, email [email protected] to be added to our email list and receive updates about all future APEX events.
